So you have decided it’s time to lose weight, and just like everything else in life, you want it to happen right NOW. We live in a society that thrives on immediate gratification – fast food, fast cars, fast service, and now we even make purchases on the Internet so we don’t have to stand in a line. And in keeping with the usual pace of our lives, most of us even want to lose weight fast!
But there are some basic tenets of weight loss that must be observed, even when you want to lose weight fast. You have to forget about dieting and learn to concentrate instead on healthy eating habits. Cutting back on calories alone doesn’t give your body the nutrition it needs to maintain a fast metabolism and keep your energy high.
On the other hand, by eating food dense in nutrition and low in calories, you won’t be as hungry, you give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs and you have the energy to walk past the donut table in the middle of the afternoon. And finding these foods isn’t as difficult as you might believe. Did you know you can eat as much raw fruits and vegetables as you want without fear of gaining weight?
Exercise is another important factor in losing weight, getting healthy, and having more energy. As much as you may think you hate exercise, just keep in mind that you aren’t training to compete in the Olympics. Instead you are just trying to increase your metabolism and burn a few extra calories. Try using the stairs instead of the elevator, parking further away so that you have to take a few extra steps, or fit a 30 minute walk or other exercise programs into your schedule each day.
Remember to rest too! Many of us are busy from the time we get up until the moment we go to bed. Sometimes finding the time to eat or exercise can be a challenge. But cutting back on sleep will only sabotage your efforts to lose weight.
Shoot for 7-8 hours a night. Some people believe they can make do on less, and although you’ll be awake studies have shown that you’ll grab more snacks in an effort to jump start your brain and keep yourself awake. Lack of sleep also adds to your stress level which releases hormones known to pack on the pounds. It is nature’s way of protecting the body.
And for an added boost to your weight loss efforts, try incorporating these natural weight loss drinks into your diet every day.
Apple Cider Vinegar And Weight Loss
Apple Cider Vinegar is a very powerful natural appetite suppressant if you can get past the taste, which is pretty bad. But, because hunger tends to be the biggest road block in your efforts toward effective weight loss, you may need the aid of appetite suppressants such as apple cider vinegar, at least until you get into the habit of eating less.
You can rely on prescription weight loss pills, but Apple Cider vinegar is 100% natural so it is a much safer alternative to the drugs. Three tablespoons of the vinegar mixed with eight ounces of water and drunk just before your meals will give your metabolic rate a boost and you should feel more energetic throughout the day.
Green Tea Weight Loss Tea
I think most everybody must have heard about the great health benefits of green tea by now, especially in regards to weight loss. Most weight loss supplements these days contain green tea, and for good reason. Not only is it loaded with antioxidants, but the active ingredient in Green Tea, Epigallocatechin (EGCG), is very valuable in boosting fat burning processes such as thermogenesis and fat oxidation in humans.
Green tea weight loss drinks can be purchased most anywhere that other bottled drinks are sold, but you can also brew your own fresh. If the taste of green tea is not to your liking, try it with lemon juice and honey.

Are you ready to take that first step to losing weight. You’re sick and tired of carrying around those extra pounds and now you’re ready to do something about it. GREAT the first step is finding healthy diet plans to consider before you run off to just cut back on what you eat.
You see losing weight can be as easy as cutting back on your portion sizes, how ever that requires an immense amount of discipline, and the majority of us falter on this point after only a few days. So you’re better to have a healthy diet plan to fall back on as your road map to success for weight loss.
What are your alternatives
There are hundreds of diets to choose from. The Internet has made it a lot easier to research diets and even sign up and follow them then ever before. No more weekly meetings and weigh ins, popular programs like weight watchers, slim fast, and MediFast are all available in an online form.
Of course, there are also no shortage of books you can buy from online retailers like Amazon or your local book store to read up on a particular diet plan and educate yourself on how to stick to it.
What to look for
It’s important before choosing a diet plan to follow that you know what you like and don’t like. Having an idea of the foods you enjoy and matching that to a particular diet plan that lets you eat those foods is important. For instance following the Mediterranean diet is great if you enjoy pastas, some vegetables, and a bit of wine. How ever if you’re more of a fan of meat and proteins then the Atkins plan is probably a better fit.
Take time to think about what you’re willing to cut out of your diet, and also what you’d like to keep.
The second thing to consider is are you going to be getting all your required nutrients from a diet plan. Some diets don’t give you the full servings of fruits and vegetables you need each day to get the vitamins and minerals to lead a healthy lifestyle.
For short term this isn’t the end of the world, but you should be sure to supplement what you’re missing with a multivitamin if required.

In the latest pharmaceutical news, an experimental obesity pill (Empatic) by Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. has accounted for a 7.5% weight loss in test subjects, in phase II trials after 24 weeks, as compared to a 1.4% weight loss in those taking a placebo. By FDA guidelines, there must beat least a 5 percentage point difference between patients taking a weight loss drug and those in a control group to receive U.S. approval. While the 6.1% difference does meet the federal guidelines, it must be pointed out that like the over the counter weight loss pill Alli (GlaxoSmithKline), Empatic is also combined with a diet and exercise program to achieve those results. If you are not familiar with Alli, it is a half strength, over the counter, version of Xenecal, a prescription only weight loss drug with current FDA approval.
With the possibility of raking in billions of dollars for an FDA approved drug to fight obesity and perhaps childhood obesity down the road, Orexigen and at least two other bio-tech companies are getting close and stock values are rising.
Now, while 6% is 6%, I don’t know if I would be wringing my hands in delightful anticipation that this is the “silver bullet” we’ve all been waiting for. It just seems that a 5% difference is a pretty low standard for declaring a prescription drug, with all the possible side effects and costs involved, the next big thing. In addition, 30+% of the subjects taking Empatic didn’t lose the required 5 percentage points difference and 50+% of another test group taking a lower dosage failed to hit the 5% mark. While warnings and side effects will be hashed out between the drug maker and the FDA at a later date, a look at Alli’s side effects might be enlightening: Gas with an oily anal discharge, Loose stools or diarrhea, More frequent bowel movements and Hard-to-control bowel movements to mention a few.
Maybe just a few more minutes on the treadmill or a few less calories a day might be a better approach. Just saying… Use the free BMI calculator to see where you stand.

Many weight loss products offer quick fix solutions. Manufacturers and distributors of these products provide promising claims that can tempt anyone to try. Who would not be interested products that can melt away your fat while you doze off? Or how about those made of 100 percent natural ingredients that guarantee long-lasting results?
Healthy options
Many people who want to lose weight try hard to find an effective weight loss product (or at least a healthy one). Finding one is very tricky, however. When planning to use a supposedly healthy product, examine it carefully. Consult a health care professional about it. Do not be swayed by advertising claims. Be aware of claims that have words like magical, guaranteed, effortless, easy, or mysterious. These weight loss products are simply unrealistic.
Multi-billion industry
Weight loss products is a multi-billion industry. In the United States alone, Americans spend $30 billion dollars on them. These products vary, coming in the form of diet foods, drinks, pills, potions, and even devices.
Some of the ineffective products are diet patches, bulk fillers, muscle stimulators, and certain appetite suppressants. Prescription medications for weight loss can have side effects. Take note of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride, an appetite suppressant that can increase blood pressure. Ephedra, one of the widely popular weight loss pills, has been banned because it can cause heart problems, chest pain, seizures, and stroke.
The only weight loss solution that guarantees healthy and permanent long-term results is a combination of low calorie diet and regular physical exercise. The calories you consumed should be burned so that these would not be stored as fat in your body. A healthy weight loss product can only serve as a supplement. A healthy weight loss product can never equal the effect of a low calorie diet and regular physical exercise.

In the 1970s the Atkins diet became popular for a time, but later lost popularity in the face of considerable strong criticism from medical experts. The items published on some websites critical of his diet were legally challenged by Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., but they were not able to disprove the criticism. There were also reports of people having difficulty following the diet and being unable to lose weight safely. There were some though who did lose weight with it and were quite happy with what they achieved.
What is the Atkins diet? This diet was created by Dr Robert Atkins whose theory was based on the belief that too many carbs in the diet is the cause of weight gain.
The body burns simple sugars to provide the energy required. If there are insufficient sugars available the body then breaks down carbohydrates, which are complex sugars, to provide the simple sugar it can use. The theory and the reasoning which Dr, Atkins employed is that if the supply of carbs is reduced the body is forced to burn fat in order to produce the energy required and therefore the body would lose weight.
Of course exercise is an essential part of the program, since if the person does not exercise, insufficient energy is required and the calories will not be used.
The Atkins diet has three stages:
The introductory stage, which severely limits the intake of carbs from the normal average of 300 per day to 20, while protein intake is not limited. This lasts for 14 days and is the time when major weight loss occurs. The pre-maintenance stage, where the diet is adjusted by testing foods to see if they cause weight gain. The final stage is maintenance of a steady weight with further gradual adjustment of the diet.
Conclusion Most of the criticism of the Atkins diet appears to focus on the severe restriction of carbohydrates and the apparent lack of restriction on protein intake which it is claimed causes a very unbalanced diet and can interfere with the proper functioning of the body and brain. On balance it would seem that the Atkins diet should be used with caution and if you suffer from health problems apart from being over weight then it would be better to opt for a healthy balanced diet.

Here are a few of the weight loss studies that made headlines for the year 2007. The results of this first study come as no surprise. The study showed that even low levels of exercise are beneficial. Participants walked briskly for thirty minutes a day three days a week. Their blood pressure decreased and their overall fitness improved. Waist and hip girth decreased significantly.
Another study showed if you are a cyclist you are at a greater risk of osteoporosis. It’s recommended that you include some weight bearing exercises in your workouts.
Aren’t some of these studies just plain old common sense? Exercise is beneficial to the brain announced another 2007 study. The data showed exercise improved the cognitive function of the brain.
Using a pedometer caused significant increases in physical activity and significant decreases in body mass index and blood pressure. My advice, run out and buy a pedometer and keep track of your steps and mileage.
Did you know the more entertaining a television program the more you eat. That’s right a study showed the more involved the subjects were in the TV show the more they ate.
There have been many studies over the years on Conjugated Linoleic Acid CLA. The 2007 study showed that CLA helps a person lose fat.
This one is a bit of a surprise. Overweight people did not benefit as much from strength training as did leaner people. Researchers showed that both groups benefited from strength training. It’s just that overweight people did not gain as much strength or lean muscle mass.
Not so surprisingly, eating soup or a salad before your meal helps to curb your appetite. The study showed that soup took the edge off hunger.
When you think about it, the findings of this study make a lot of sense. Emotional eaters have the hardest time losing and keeping weight off.
This one’s scary. Being overweight increases the risk of kidney cancer.
Hang on to your seat because Americans are fatter than ever. Didn’t we all know this already? How much of our taxpayer money was spent on this one?
This one isn’t too hard to believe. All diets have about the same results. Researchers reported that a typical dieter lost about 12 pounds no matter what diet they choose. Providing of course they stuck with it.
A lot of people won’t like the results of this study. The Atkins diet resulted in greater weight loss than other diets.
I’ve got to tell you about this one. Newly married young men and women gained 6 to 9 pounds more than their peers who were not married. And if the couple lived together without the benefit of marriage the weight gain was not nearly as much.
So there you have it. These are just a few of the weight loss studies that made the headlines in 2007. I’ll be watching the 2008 studies. Maybe scientist will find the miracle weight loss pill we’ve all been waiting for.

To determine whether weight loss supplements are effective or not, you can check on their weight loss supplement rating. The weight loss supplement rating ensures that the supplement that you are going to take is effective and safe.
An assurance
The weight loss supplement rating also provides you with the assurance that the weight loss supplement you want to take can provide you with the results that you can expect from it. Keep in mind that different products have a different weight loss supplement rating.
The guarantee
It is important to remember that a weight loss supplement rating cannot completely guarantee that the product can work. For example, Fat Burner A may receive an A grade from one person, but another person can give it a D grade. The ratings are based on their ingredients and how they can contribute to a person’s weight loss. Here are some examples.
Caffeine
Caffeine is a common ingredient present in fat burners because they promote thermogenesis to the body to increase your metabolism. There are also claims that it can suppress your appetite. However, it received a D grade for its weight loss supplement rating because there is not enough scientific evidence that it can contribute to weight loss.
Carnitine
This ingredient is known for its benefits to increasing your metabolism and curbing your appetite. Depending on the person and their frequency of physical activity along with a proper diet, the weight loss supplement rating of carnitine may range from an A to a D.
Green tea
Green tea is known for its fat-burning benefits and for contributing to an increase in a person’s metabolic rate. However, even with its increasing popularity, it received a weight loss supplement rating of C, which means that the evidence for its effectiveness is weak.
Ginseng
Weight loss supplements with ginseng aids in fighting stress, which is one of the contributing factors for weight gain to some people. It also works by increasing your metabolic rate, but it only received a C rating.

What are hoodia side effects? Is hoodia safe? Dieters want to know. There is no short answer to this question. Known hoodia side effects amount to nothing more than thirst suppression, requiring dieters to drink water, even when they are not thirsty. But, is hoodia safe? It should be. Other succulents like aloe provide the active ingredients in many patented medicines and are considered safe for most people. If hoodia side effects are similar to those of aloe, then it should not be used by pregnant women. Aloe increases menstrual flow and is used to treat amenorrhea, which is a lack of menstrual periods in women of child-bearing age.
There are several reasons that it is difficult to answer the question; is hoodia safe. Clinical research has not been completed. The available research supports claims by the health supplement industry concerning appetite suppression. There is also evidence to support the statements concerning increased energy and metabolism. What the research can not do is provide an absolute answer to questions about hoodia side effects and safety. It is understandable that dieters are cautious. It has not been long since ephedra was removed from the market and memories of Fen-fen related deaths are still fairly fresh in the public’s mind. It is difficult to recommend a product when so little is known about it. But, one thing is certain, hoodia is not a stimulant.
Most appetite suppressants contain stimulants. If an overweight person is about to purchase an appetite suppressant, then the answer to the question; is hoodia safe, should be answered a little differently. Hoodia side effects do not include any of those associated with stimulants. It does not increase heart rate or blood pressure. If a person is deciding between hoodia and a product containing a stimulant, then the safest choice is hoodia.
Phytopharm is the company that is best suited to answer the question; is hoodia safe. Phytopharm was the first company to work with the scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Africa. Phytopharm states that, “…the safety data are consistent with a satisfactory overall safety profile…” Phytopharm is still conducting research concerning hoodia side effects and is not yet ready to release its patented product, but has invested millions of dollars in creating hoodia plantations in Africa. This seems to indicate that they believe the outcome will be positive.
In March 2006, Consumer Reports concluded, “Given the very scanty evidence that hoodia works and the even scantier evidence that it’s safe, particularly for long-term use, we do not recommend the use of hoodia-based weight-loss products.” It is difficult to understand why consumer reports would make such a broad statement. For one thing, most dieters would not need to use hoodia on a long-term basis, so hoodia side effects related to long term use are irrelevant. For another thing, Consumer Reports does not make similar statements relating to weight loss products containing stimulants. In these articles, they state that stimulant containing appetite suppressants should only be used by otherwise healthy individuals. This would be a more unbiased statement. The Consumer Reports article may lead individuals to believe that, “no” is the answer to the question; is hoodia safe. When in actuality, there is no evidence of adverse hoodia side effects and no evidence suggests that hoodia is not safe.
