An internet search or late night television watching reveals there are hundreds of products out on the market to help lose weight. Many are sold as supplements, which do not go through the same rigorous testing or have to meet the same standards as other drugs sold in the United States. Supplements that claim chitosan are popular in this area. The long term effects of these supplements are not yet known, and gastrointestinal problems can result from use. It is suggested to avoid high-fat foods as much as possible when taking these pills and to continue with your normal exercise routine. Many people report that they do not the same kind of quick weight loss they have with appetite suppressants.
Thermogenic supplements are still very popular. The theory behind thermogenesis is that body fat burns at a high temperature, and that when one’s internal temperature is higher, body fat will decrease. Back in the eighties and nineties sweat suits were marketed to produce the same effect. Many times these are marketed as fat loss supplements, though they may have other ingredients designed to work specifically on trouble areas.
This is by no means a complete categorization of the types of weight loss supplements available. There are many others. And there is no magic pill that is going to instantly cause the weight to fall off your body. Remember that no matter what supplement you choose, always back it up with proper diet and exercise to keep your metabolism rising and to create a healthier, happier you.

It’s hard to imagine, but the Atkins Weight Loss Plan – which has grown in popularity in recent years – has actually been around since the 1970s. If you want to know more about this program, this article would be able to help you.
In 1972, Dr. Robert C. Atkins introduced the program which is based on the concept of controlled carbohydrate intake. His program is considered “revolutionary” since his teachings go totally against what is considered the norm and until now many are questioning the effectiveness of the program.
What happens when someone is on the Atkins Weight Loss Plan?
The first two weeks of program is called the “induction” period. During this time, dieters are allowed to eat no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. Foods that contain carbohydrates include cereals, fruits, vegetables (potatoes, corn, carrots, peas, zucchini, broccoli) bread, milk, grains, pasta, starches, etc. This translates into a diet consisting of nearly unlimited amounts of meats, poultry, seafood, oils, butter, margarine, bacon, eggs, cheeses and sausages. The 20 gram carb limit is generally derived from trace amounts of carbs in sauces, cheeses and a couple cups of lettuce greens or vegetables daily. After the first two weeks, dieters can stat adding about 5 more grams of carbohydrates to their diet weekly. Gradually, the program’s goal is to maintain a diet consisting of no more than 40-90 grams of carbohydrates. This is the part of the program that is called the “maintenance” phase.
A typical Atkins Weight Loss Plan menu looks like this:
1. Breakfast – Omelet with bacon or ham and onions 2 slices tomato
2. Lunch – Tossed salad Spicy burger with cheese (no bun)
3. Dinner – Baked salmon or Halibut Steamed broccoli with lemon juice and pepper
4. Snack – guacamole with raw veggies
Many people claimed to have lost their weight while on the program. Critics would attribute the weight loss to the limited amount of food that one can consume while on the program. Experts also oppose the very limited amount of carbohydrates that the program allows which is below the levels of health experts and major health organizations would recommend.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, obesity in America increased at an alarming rate during the late 1990’s. Even more alarming is the fact that there were more than 9 million obese kids under the age of fifteen. In other words, 15% of American kids and teenagers were classified as being obese. While these figures are shocking, it’s estimated that this figure has now risen to above the 30% mark which means that the number of obese kids under the age of 15 has doubled in the last few years. By taking these figures into consideration, the call for urgent action has never before been so urgent.
Of course, while certain medical conditions can result in obesity, poor diets and a lack of kid’s fitness are the primary causes. Remember, whenever we eat too much, our body will store any excess energy in the form of fat. As such, the only viable way in which to maintain a healthy weight is by adopting a healthy diet and by encouraging kid’s fitness. What many people fail to realize is, a single fast-food meal can often contain more energy that what their daily requirement is. Furthermore, numerous studies have also established that something as simple as having a TV in your kid’s room can greatly increase their risk of becoming obese.
Measuring weight
Contrary to what some may believe, determining whether or not a teenager is overweight can for the most part be more difficult than it is with adults because teens are still in the growing stage. However, the vast majority of health care professionals use a measurement known as “BMI” (Body Mass Index) in order to determine if a teen is overweight or not. If the BMI of a teen is higher than 95% of other teens the same age and gender, the teen is considered to be obese. If on the other hand their B is between 85% and 95% that of other teens, they are considered overweight.
How can we prevent teenage obesity?
Essentially, it all boils down to the parents. In many cases, habits which a kid picks up as a child will often remain with them for the rest of their life. I myself still have habits which I picked up as a kid, as I’m sure you may well have too. As such, you need to encourage good habits and the best time to start is right this minute.
Fast foods:
Fast foods are more than likely the undisputed champion with regards to causing obesity. Irrespective of how tired you are when you get home from work, fast foods should simply never be an option instead of a nutritious meal. Remember, the average person requires approximately 2000 calories per day and while you may not be aware of it, most fast food meals contain at least 1200 calories. That’s more than half your daily requirement packed into a single meal.
What can parents do?
Primarily, you need to educate your children as to the benefits of healthy eating and kid’s fitness. Always ensure your kitchen cupboards are well stocked and make sure they are stocked with healthy enjoyable foods. Remember, parents can be a huge influence to kids so it’s important that you all eat together as a family, and that you set an example by eating healthy food yourself. Additionally, studies have also established that foods which rank low on the glycemic index actually help to promote weight loss.
Furthermore, when you discuss obesity or being overweight with your kids, it should be done in a manner which the kid will find to be encouraging. In other words, always avoid coming across in a negative light because ultimately, you want your kid to agree with you that loosing weight is a good thing. Teenagers are not yet adults, no matter how mature they may seem and as such, they will need your support if they are to have a chance at leading a normal happy life.

The market is saturated with products that claim to help you lose weight. It can be hard to figure out which ones of them really work and which ones just have plenty of hype behind them. You also have to be careful about the long term effects of various weight loss supplements.
For example it was once believed that products with Ephedra were safe because it was the herbal form of Ephedrine. Listen, you may not know this, but the hula hoop may be 1 of the best and cheapest weight loss pieces of equipment you can ever buy. But beware… if you make this 1 mistake, you are probably not getting the most out of your hula hoop.
You don’t need many hula hoop exercises to lose weight, but you do need to do this for maximum weight loss…
For maximum weight loss using hula hoop exercises, you must use the hula hoop in short bursts… 2 minutes at a time. Using a hula hoop in just 1 session is a mistake. Your metabolism gets much more of a boost doing short mini-workouts throughout the day.
Now, to begin with, 2 minutes or less is probably all you’ll be able to do before you get tired. That’s fine.
But once you get good, be sure to stop after 2 minutes. Rest a bit, then do another 2 minutes as fast as you can go.
What I like to do is this… I use 2 minute tv commercials to exercise. I’ve found this to be best for results… as well as best for my busy schedule. This allows me to watch tv and relax, but still workout for about 22 minutes over 1 hour. (Note: There are about 22 minutes of commercials and dead time during a 1 hour tv show.)
Hula Hoop Exercises
There is only 1 hula hoop exercise that you need to do. Simply twirl it around your waist. You don’t need to get fancy or anything. That’s it.
I think hula hoops are awesome and under-appreciated. Besides mini-trampolines, they are fast becoming my favorite exercise equipment to use. I already have a toned body, but I’ve notice some nice little improvements in my waist and hips since adding the hula hoop to my 2 minute tv commercial exercise program.
So you don’t need to get complicated and use many hula hoop exercises… you only need 1. Just do this 1 exercise during tv commercials everyday for about 20 minutes. Do that and I dare you to email me saying it didn’t help improve your body in less than 3 weeks.

In part 2 of this article, I am going to look at 3 more foods that facilitate fat loss, which if it is your goal to reduce your body fat and lose weight, you should get into the habit of eating on very regular basis. These foods are “staple” foods. You can make all kinds different types and varieties of dishes with these items being the “staple” base elements. If you choose to eat these types of foods on a regular and consistent basis, not only will your body love you for it but you will achieve your weight loss and fat loss goals much quicker.
Yams and/or sweet potato’s are terrific choice for a starchy complex carbohydrate. Not only are they very tasty and flavorful but they are packed with nutritional value as well. Additionally, they are low in glycemic index which makes them a good choice when trying to reduce body fat and lose weight.
Green fibrous vegetables are another carbohydrate (they are a fibrous carbohydrate) that you will want to include in your diet regularly. They should be a top choice if burning fat is your goal. Fibrous green vegetables include lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, etc. The combination of these fibrous complex carbohydrates combined with lean protein on a regular basis is a sure fire way to reduce body fat and lose weight. Green fibrous vegetables have very few calories which make it almost impossible to eat too much of them. You can’t go wrong by eating lots of green fibrous vegetables.
One last type of food I will look at in part 2 of this report which you should be a staple in your diet if you are trying to reduce your body fat and lose weight is chicken breast. I will include turkey breast as well. Chicken and turkey breast are a terrific source of lean protein. It’s important to note here that I’m talking about actual chicken breast or turkey breast, not processed lunch meats that are filled with preservatives and other additives. Consistently eating chicken and turkey breast will give you lot’s of lean protein and help you achieve you fat loss and weight loss goals.
3 more foods that facilitate fat loss which you should eat regularly in addition to those covered in part 1 of this article are yams/sweet potato’s, fibrous green vegetables, and chicken/turkey breast. Eating these types of foods will help you reduce your body fat, lose weight, and reach your goals.

September 13, 1999
Do you remember where you were six years ago today?
I do. It was the day I underwent gastric bypass surgery – a day that changed my life forever.
I don’t recall much about that day. I remember feeling embarrassed lying on the preparation table, my enormous belly exposed to be cleansed antiseptically. I remember feeling frightened, but calm with a total acceptance that gastric bypass surgery was the best decision for me. I remember the anesthesiologist, a beautiful woman, not very old and not very big.
Then I went to sleep.
I woke up puking violently, an unpleasant reaction to anesthesia. I didn’t have my glasses so things were blurry, particularly the flowers from my husband. And I can remember a push-button device that helped me sleep. Later that night I realized I was not yet smaller. In fact my stomach was bloated and sore. In my drug induced vagueness I became convinced the surgeon had mistakenly done the wrong operation because I was getting bigger, not smaller.
The day after surgery my surgeon visited me, taught me to drink tiny sips of water, patted my hand and told me I was going to do just fine. I remember walking around the hospital hallway. I remember a female nurse bathing me. I remember a very good-looking male nurse – he didn’t bathe me. Rats! I remember drinking some nasty liquid chalk and getting an x-ray to confirm my stomach had been whacked, stapled and bypassed. I remember the super-sized wheel chair and being embarrassed that it fit just fine.
I remember being discharged from the hospital to spend the next several days in a hotel room because we had traveled a great distance for my “last resort” surgery. I watched “Mame” on TBS several times. The sofa at the hotel was scratchy. My husband and I went on “outings” each day, little drives around a strange town. He emptied my surgical drain for me. I thought it was disgusting.
One week after surgery we went to Sea World where I wept in profound disbelief at the great whales circling the pool and performing flawlessly for a bite of fish. Being from out-of-town, we sat in the “Splash Zone”. Turns out those warnings are for a reason. The great swimming mammal whacked his tail and we were drenched!
On Thursday of the second week Leslie, the darling nurse and counselor herself a WLS patient, removed my drain. We could go home. She asked me the four rules and I repeated them to her. She told me, “Take advantage of this window of opportunity. Learn everything you can. If you don’t learn early to follow the rules and take care of yourself you can regain this weight.”
Starry eyed and hopeful we packed ourselves in the car and headed for home. Almost 1,500 miles later we pulled into the driveway of home sweet home. My fabulous husband said to me, “Welcome to your new life – You Have Arrived.”

You can burn fat fast and it isn’t as difficult as you may have always believed it to be. It is a matter of boosting your metabolism, exercising effectively, getting enough rest, and eating the right foods. What I am going to suggest to you is that you stop taking fat burning so seriously. I’m sure that it’s a safe bet that if you look back at most of the changes you made in your life, you’ll see that you didn’t make a big deal out of them. While everyone is different, there are fat burning tips that can help you. Controlling diet and exercising can blast fat away. So what should you do about trying to burn fat fast? The answer to that is simple.
Simply keep it simple. The harder you try, the harder it becomes. When you stop stressing over every little aspect of losing weight you are going to find that something marvelous starts to happen. There are a lot of different “quick fixes”, but what you really want to avoid is using a “crash diet”. A crash diet essentially means that you try to starve yourself by purposely eating as little as possible in hopes it will help you burn fat.
